Vivo al Venti is located at Via Milano 20 in Turin, in a historic building designed by Filippo Juvarra, a major Italian architect in the XVIII century. The intervention is situated in a pivotal area between the city centre, Porta Palazzo and the Roman Quadrangle, in a strategic position within easy reach of everything (services, transport, shops, entertainment) thus multiplying the opportunities, activities and relationships that present themselves around the residential space.
Vivo al Venti performs different functions, contributing in various ways to the local development. In addition to the dwellings, the building offers a communal space – which the residents can use to share their free time and organize collective activities – spaces that are designated to craft or commercial activities as well as the connection with projects that promote the territory, such as the project Porta Palazzo Zero Sei.

The project included the restoration of the building through an intervention of preservation and conservation, the main focus of which was:

  • the maintenance of the commercial scope of the units located on the ground floor;
  • the change of intended use from commercial to residential for some of the units located on the first floor;
  • the change of intended use from service sector to residential for the units located on the second floor;
  • the modification on all floors of the distribution layout of the existing units.

In consideration of the historic, architectural and artistic value of the building, in parallel with the design activities and in agreement with the local authorities, detailed studies were carried out on the conservation state of the structures and their decorative heritage. These studies resulted in a mapping of the building’s condition and in the careful planning of the renovation. Particular attention was paid to the piano nobile (“noble floor”, third above ground level) which is characterised by coffered ceilings and very valuable decorations, which were largely preserved and accurately restored by specialised personnel working in accordance with a project plan that was agreed with the protection authorities.

Via Milano is situated in a neighbourhood full of promising potential that is undergoing extensive requalification and is part of a program of urban and social regeneration that is being coordinated by Comitato Progetto Porta Palazzo (Porta Palazzo Project Committee). In recent years the area has been involved in various projects, many of which have been centred around food and contemporary art, thus allowing the natural vocation of the neighbourhood to express itself. Among these, the «Artists’ Residences» that provide temporary accommodation for artists and curators in specific locations, so that these spaces can become sources of inspiration and sometimes even the targets of creative projects. Within the neighbourhood there are architects’ studios, artists’ and fashion designers’ ateliers, fashionable bars, cultural events, museum and exhibition spaces. This intervention thus fits into a lively context where the community is stimulated to propose collaborative activities in keeping with the neighbourhood. This process is accompanied by professionals who guide the inhabitants in the planning of activities, in the definition of rules of use for the communal spaces and, more generally, in the management of the residence alongside the Social Manager. The residents have access to the web platform SpaceH both for the management of the communal spaces and for the organization of initiatives.
